Who it is for:

Everyone!

All professions and industries can cause burn out, however a few professions see higher-than-average burn out rates consistently. Caregiving professions such as healthcare, funeral industry, and education all routinely rate highest for burn out potential.

According to the World Health Organization, burnout is a syndrome resulting from workplace stress that has not been successfully managed. It’s characterized by three dimensions: feelings of energy depletion or exhaustion, increased mental distance from one’s job or feelings of negativism or cynicism related to one’s job, and reduced professional efficacy (World Health Organization, 2019).

Unfortunately, most employees (70%) state their employers do not do enough to mitigate or alleviate burn out. The employer provided supports typically only address burn out when the individual is maxed out on stress and their work productivity (and potentially health) is affected.

Fit for Survival is an 8 week wellness journey that fills the gap.

It is not just a Yoga class series, it is an exploration into personal resilience

Understanding how operational stressors can affect our emotional, mental, and physical health can help us to prioritize whole-body wellness in our lives. Throughout the series, we will discuss the physical features and anatomical changes that occur under operational stress or burn out, as well learn how brilliant our bodies are at healing from these situations.

Beginning with a quiz that allows you to gauge your emotional intelligence, we will work through tangible and concrete tools such as mindfulness, Yoga, functional disconnection strategies, and the characteristics of a resilient individual. Build a Resiliency Toolkit that works for you!

Forget Survival of the Fittest!

You ARE Fit for Survival.

About Gillian

headshot2022.jpeg

Having spent 15 years in high stress professions (death investigation & transplant donor coordination), I know firsthand the impacts felt by operational stress and burn out. Between 2020 & 2021, I was working fulltime in death investigation, raising a family, caring for a palliative family member within our home, and trying to keep my business afloat. When the burn out hit, it hit HARD.

I found myself chronically tired, cynical, impatient, sleep deprived, and battling chronic headaches. I knew something had to change. So, I found a psychologist who specializes in first responders & PTSD. I was clearly suffering from an operational stress injury and I wanted to know more about it.

Since 2021 I have jumped in the deep end, learning continuously!

Neurobiology of Trauma for First Responders, with Leslie Weisman (2022)

Before Operational Stress Injury, with Wounded Warriors (2022)

First Responders Trauma Prevention and Recovery Certificate, Simon Fraser University (completion 2023)
